The Heart of Matter: Divine Relationship

Tuesday, February 1st

“The dynamic life of the Trinity as ever newness in love means that every divine relationship is a new beginning because every divine person is a transcendent horizon of love. Being is transcendence in love, and God’s Being in love is eternally free.
—Ilia Delio, The Emergent Christ

“La vida dinámica de la Trinidad, como eterna novedad en el amor, supone que toda relación divina es un nuevo comienzo, porque toda persona divina es un horizonte de trascendencia en el amor. El ser es trascendencia en el amor, y el Ser de Dios es eternamente libre en el amor.”
—Ilia Delio, The Emergent Christ

An Incarnational Practice: Exchanging

While much can be “heart heard” when one takes the time to read and ponder a text, engaging it in conversation with a friend, a partner or a family member, brings into it living and relational insights. When our voice lifts the text and when someone else’s voice responds, the words take a body of their own within that relationship and in that dance the text takes us a little deeper and creates something new.

The connection of all things with divinity is suggested in this explanation of the Dao by Dr Yan. The imprint of the divine was included in some way in the wisdom of Chinese sages.

The ten thousand things carry the yin and embrace the yang (万物负阴而抱阳): all things carry the imprint of yin and yang.
Blending of their qi achieves he (冲气以为和): qi is the vital force, and he means harmony as well as totality. Laozi used “one” as a numerical representation of the Dao as the absolute. “Two” refers to yin and yang, the two that the “Dao” contains. The qi of the yin and of the yang is contained in the one Dao, and qi is the relationship between the two in the one, making qi the third. The final verse of the paragraph says: “The ten thousand things carry the yin and embrace the yang, the blending of their qi achieves harmony” (万物负阴而抱阳,冲气以为和). Therefore, we can say that qi is the vital force of the two: yin and yang. The equilibrium of the two achieves harmony. Yin-yang is also a process of harmonization that ensures a constant, dynamic balance of all things. The interaction of the qi of yin and yang establishes he (harmony), so it gives birth to all things in the cosmos. Harmony is the relationship of “mutually transforming” (相互相生) of yin and yang in the one Dao.
It generates new and harmonious life that includes all things. All things have the imprint of “one,” and “three.”

    What is being revealed?”
Trying to understand prior to this Ilia says “understanding the Trinity as an infinite emergent process? …change is not contrary to God; rather, change is integral to God because God is love and love is constantly transcending itself toward greater union.” This goes against the grain for me although in theory I like the concept.
What is being moved? “Ever newness in love” I guess I am being called to integrate all that is emerging in those around me. And yea send myself to be able to respond.
    What is being asked?
I guess I am being called to integrate all that is emerging in those around me. And through that love grow or transend myself to be able to respond in new ways to growth all around

I think I really like although I am not sure I totally get it

ever new – there has never been nor ever will be a moment like this – ever now – full of spontaneous surprises – thank you ever present Trinity for being with us and in us.

The “Incarnational Practice: Exchanging” note is very nicely put. It expresses very succinctly how important it is to listen to how others put things, which gives the Spirit within us something new to resonate with (“heart heard” is the term used). This something new can stir the heart and give new life to our love for one another.

If mankind used the same energy it uses to pursue sexual intimacy, to pursue the common good for all of mankind, then we could create the Garden of Eden for all of us right here and right now.

So appreciated the “Incarnational Practice: Exchanging”! Wondering if this “exchange” could not also include a tree, a rock, a stream?
