The Heart of Matter: Creation

Tuesday, February 8th

Creation as incarnation is the process of making whole; evolution itself can be described as the process of making wholes over long periods of time. The incarnation is the explicit making whole of divinity and humanity in the unity of person, without change, division, separation, or confusion.
—Ilia Delio, The Emergent Christ

“La creación, como la encarnación, es un proceso de unificación; y hasta la propia evolución puede describirse también como un proceso de unificación a lo largo de las eras. La encarnación es la unión explícita de la divinidad y la humanidad en el todo que es la persona, sin alteración, ni división, ni separación ni confusión alguna.”
—Ilia Delio, The Emergent Christ

An Incarnational Practice: Creating

“Often the hands will solve a mystery that the intellect has struggled with in vain.” said Carl Jung. Our invitation this week is to let your hands do the thinking and the talking while you ponder this passage. Use your favorite medium to translate your insights and give them shape, whether drawing, painting, writing, taking photos or making collages.

    Earth Body

This Earth Body of mountains and valleys,
Of caverns and streams of light filled blood,
    Stretches across the planet
Weaving me deeply into the majesty of life.
    I am forever held,
    Part yet whole,
    Belonging to the Mystery
Woven at the beginning of time.

    I live in the Earth.
My cells dance with the cells of Sunflowers
    Growing in fields,
With trees swaying in the wind,
    With birds in flight,
With all those nestled safely in nests of silent protection.
I live in the Earth, this body of beauty and of pain.

I dance not only with beauty
But with the often, unbearable pain of human existence.
I am both beauty and the horrific violence
    That creative awakening can engender.
I am a force that awakens the darkness
    Pulling one deeply into Soul,
Where when entering into the world,
I seek to always be held in the Mother’s Heart.

Silence, deep, dark, luminous silence of returning.
    The Mother’s Heart waits.
For centuries of exile, She has waited,
Inviting the veils of protective pain to dissolve in Her light.
Waiting silently, robed in the dark luminous substance of Earth
Until one is ready to cross thresholds of mystery,
Openings, the Heart welcoming one to enter, the fullness of Life.

Whenever two or more apparent contraries join together in unity at any level — be they two hands, two hearts, brain lobes, atoms, molecules, persons, nations, etc., they form a synergy or whole greater than when separate. Properly joined like puzzle pieces, the lines (differences) between them absorb each other to form a more complex whole. While each piece remains distinctive in itself, its greatest distinction comes from melding with the other piece(s). This meld establishes a healthy tension between the different pieces that hold them together, each complementing and counterbalancing the other(s) in the whole. The melting place where all the pieces merge forming larger wholes coheres via an auric “charge” (spark) common to each individual piece, as in magnets. it is this invisible attraction that draws, negotiates and orders the successful coupling of the parts to Itself and each other. In humans, this spark commonly manifests as “desire” “attraction” or “love.” In its highest form, “love,” this being-in-interbeing energy streams from a portal in consciousness, affecting perception and thought in the direction of whole-thinking and whole-seeing. This portal is an entry way through the space-time curtain into what is otherwise known as “liminal space,” the “narrow way,” the “Christ-mind,” “Christ-consciousness,” “single eye,” “Spirit,” “body of Christ,” or “My kingdom” — a threshold interface between the visible and invisible worlds. Residing in no building, geographic locale, or in any distinctive creed or religion, its location and access point are everywhere and free. Like sunlight, this auric envelope penetrates the world but is not of it. Called spirit or soul (spirit-soul), its primary locus is hidden within things, defined simply as pure consciousness devoid of thought, emotion (except love) and form, the nexus (milieu) between and among persons who become aware they consist of and are joined by this universal energy. Consciousness, or spirit, is fundamental to all things in space-time, and evolves to rise from and triumph over matter in trans-human form. No physical matter could exist without its seamless auric (spirit) counterpart, an exact replica of the physical. Individuals awakened to the spirit they have always inhabited (unknowingly), are new (spiritual) creations which strive to perfect themselves as residents of this kingdom, reconciled to the “King” and other like “subjects” from this living radiant core. “For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them” (Matt. 18:20). As co-creators, they are called to assist others in overcoming separation-consciousness, that others may likewise realize their own identity, role, function and habitation in this universally available kingdom, otherwise hidden in plain sight.

Before Galileo and Kepler put observable facts together with the right theory, the movement of planets and stars was a mystery to the human mind. Then, we figured it out. That doesn’t mean that we know everything. It only means that the things we do know, make sense.

I submit that the Trinity is only a mystery (doesn’t make sense) because we are still operating on the assumption that God and “creation” are distinct. Most of us still assume that “love (unity) is a decision.” It is as if we are all a bunch of jelly beans that have to be gathered into one jar instead of being ONE ORGANISM that IS God (“the real presence)–there is no choice. All we can do with our so-called “free will” is what a kid does when she says that she will not go to sleep. She can try, but all she really does is to make herself and everyone else miserable.

I also submit that to understand Trinity, we must assume the existence of something called “persons.” “Persons” are not part of life. Since they have no life, they are the only things capable of receiving the fullness of the ONE ORGANISM. Just as the God Life cannot be Love without giving itself totally to another, so “persons” cannot exit without a life that is given to them.

Once, the human mind surrenders itself to those two plausible assumptions, the Trinity become completely logical–it makes sense

Take the ocean and waves IN the ocean, we are like that wave in that there’s much anticipation as we develop and— when we crest, well, it’s a spectacular moment, with enough power for a surfboarder to ride the wave into shore, and in such splendor at that, —but then the wave relatively quickly dissolves into the whole ocean, and once again all waves are part of the ocean, all is one, no individuality whatsoever.
So it is a both/and proposition, but by far and away the longer period is not our mortal form for a brief moment of eternity, but rather the communal bath in which we rest. The ocean really does not change,— though it imperceptively evolves.

There can be very different perspectives regarding these statements and questions. Consider that the possibility that “creation” by God…is something not of “form” that comes and goes…like our bodies , earth, planets all deteriorating,.. black holes and all.
God’s creation being the energy of love, exaltation, oneness…being eternal. The forms we experience, our bodies etc. being only an image…a dream…brought about by a dream of “individuality” that never truly happened. Yet, the dream continues because it incurred an “Ego” dynamic…full of guilt, fear, and anger that projected itself outward…as a world. And we stay in such a world by projecting guilt, anger, fear outward on supposed “others”…different than ourselves. Yet we may indeed “make” with our hands, sounds and thoughts…something in alignment with God’s creation: things where our flow of “making” is with the “flow” of something greater. A process of love. Yet often this process is also set aside by ego thoughts…wanting fame, fortune, or statements of acrimony. I have been a lifelong artist and teacher of art. But it has taken me a lifetime to realize and examine the differences in such makings. The “purpose” must be questioned….with the Holy Spirit/Jesus within…in a genuine way.

Genesis: Chapter 1; verses: 26, 27 & 28 – we understand these verses as not actual facts, but as part of the mystery of creation. In praying over these verses I am becoming aware that we as humans have been charged with care for creation. At this point in time we have a much greater understanding of exactly how we have been damaging the gift that God has given us. At the same time, we have achieved a greater understanding, through science – of ways that we can actually care for, and heal the damage that we have caused. We are blessed by God in this unusual way. What a gift and challenge at the same time. Blessed be God forever.
