Visio Divina by Carl Madigan

Painting by Henry Ossawa Tanner, 1898

While in prayer with this painting I was deeply captivated by her eyes and drawn to write the following:

Your eyes are my eyes
My eyes are your eyes
You see — I see — we see.

Free to see the Presence of the Other
Sharing our intimate space
with gentle, loving embrace.
Accepting all — loving all.

The light shines through
gifting us with Presence.
Presence of the Holy One
Presence with the Holy One

Open to the Holy
Open to the self
Open to trust
Open to hope.
