Creating An Interior Universe

An audio interview with ILIA DELIO recorded July 20, 2017.

As the audio interview begins Brie Stoner asks Ilia Delio about her recent blog (FINDING OUR WAY IN AN EVOLUTIONARY WORLD) and what is meant when using the term “consciousness.” As their conversation continues other topics raised for discussion include the nature of reality, the relationship between inner and outer life, mysticism, and some thoughts on how to we can approach personal development and our willingness to change.

Ilia’s suggests:

“We need to create an interior universe. We live in this outer universe but we don’t know our own inner universe…We’ve done enough discovery now in the outer universe to last us for a while, why not discover our inner universe. Be an explorer.”

Reference is also made to Ilia Delio’s forthcoming new book A Hunger for Wholeness: Soul, Space and Transcendence

I too have listened to this incredible piece between Sister Ilia and Brie several times. I’ve restrained in commenting because It’s hard for me to capture in words the depth of reflection this interview calls me to. I’m so grateful you have shared it and I will continue to sit with it. One aspect I sit with is; “There is a relationship between Consciousness and space. Energy fields, The increase in Consciousness overcomes any spacial differences. This Consciousness is the inner side of Love and Love unifies.

These last days of World affairs begs how can we have arrived again at a time of thinking lives are so disposable. Thank you for giving us a view to aide us in holding our world in prayer.

I listened to your conversation with Brie Stoner several times because I thought it was so interesting. In my reading of Tielhard’s “The Phenomenon of Man” I had the impression that he thought all future evolution would take place on the level of consciousness rather than by biological change.

This reminded me of a philosopher I had read about, Merleau Ponty who emphasized the primary importance of the body’s intelligence in knowing the world. While consciousness cannot be disentangled from the body, all the content of consciousness comes to us through the doorways of the body.

One could speculate that if climate change continues unchecked, there could be evolutionary somatic changes in our bodies, ergo our consciousness.

so many rich points to discuss. seeing roots of divinity in activism, i think of the need for a satyagraha for our times, a truth force that, once deeply realised, can never be unseen. the early memes of greenpeace stuck to a generation’s mind. anyone who has fallen deeply into the hurricane of teilhard’s vision has been so shaken and is now bound on a cosmic level to the further and ahead you’re speaking of. i seek details of the landmarks of the immediate ahead so we will recognise the phylums of power we seek to gather around. teilhard’s revelation is complex, radical, counter-intuitive and shrouded in novel terminology. it is deeply trans formative but not easily transmitted. in transmission we must not let our enthusiasm and poetry allow us to be loose with the evidence. stenger’s-quantum gods- corrected much of the quantum poetry i’d been spreading. using extrapolations from strange behaviours in the micro-particle zoo was earning me mileage in the new age community and derision among those who knew what the math meant. the rules of evidence must be strictly and conservatively applied especially when the data is unfathomably minuscule and strange. as we wish to grow dialogue with the progressives in diverse disciplines we may be inspired like brie to leap out expecting to be caught by love but if the homework of community building with our complex teilhardian vision hasn’t been developed, our reception may be uncertain. for me the teilhardian revolution was equal parts mystic and activist/scientist, every step towards omega must share these dual foundations and aspirations. it is a long slow walk that challenges my revolutionary enthusiasm. i thank you both for your wise and careful handling of our critical sketches of future
