Heart of Matter: The New Universe Story is Complex

Tuesday, January 31, 2023

“What is entirely amazing about this story is that we are here to tell it. Although the new universe story is complex, there are certain features to be noted. First, the “what” of the universe appears like a quantum leap into existence.”

Ilia Delio, Making All Things New

“Lo que es más sorprendente de esta historia es que estemos nosotros aquí para contarla. A pesar de que la historia actual del universo sea compleja, se pueden subrayar algunos aspectos. Ante todo, el “qué” del universo se nos presenta como un salto cuántico hacia la existencia.”

Ilia Delio, Making All Things New

The evolving cosmos from the Great Flaring Forth to a habitable blue planet. Amazing! The emergence of life on Earth, evolving to self reflecting mammals. Unbelievably amazing! Where to from here, “God knows?” Or perhaps not, depends on how we view the relationship of humans to the divine. Will humans make the blue planet uninhabitable? Over my dead body! Who knows?

A quantum is the smallest amount of a thing, something that can no longer be parsed or divided, like a photon or electron. In physics, it’s the mustard seed measurement, the simple that evolves into the complex, the many from the One. In creation, big things come from small things. So technically, a “quantum leap” is not a big leap forward, but back again toward the the small, the simple, the undivided, the One hidden in the many at the center of things. It’s the place where evolution becomes involution in centration, when plants turn to seed, when the Christ replicates and ripens himself in maturing souls. Complex is only sometimes better, save when the Groth arc bends toward center in entropy or involute mode, on a return trip to quantum simplicity, centering, and connectivity in Spirit. Said Jesus, “I am he who exists from the undivided”(Gospel of Thomas). And in Him, we must exist there as well, or remain stuck in psychogenic mode. As for complexity? Before we wrote letters and met in person. Now we text, tweet, and FaceTime. In quantum terms, how much closer to ourselves, God, and each other are we really?

Very encouraging to know that we are here to tell the Story.

To a person of faith, one’s existence in such an integrated cosmos boggles the mind-spirit dimension. Awe and deep gratitude, wonderment and humility must overcome one. Whether one is well or sick, bright, dull or average does not matter in this situation. Here each person matters, and each holon in the universe has its part of the divine will/action.

COMPLEX?? Indeed it is. Best defined in words from The Phenomenon of Man as
“A paroxysm of harmonized complexity.” Just think of the Scrabble score that could fetch?
