What would you like to ask Ilia?

How do we act from hope in an age of distrust?

Ilia will compile the questions received and respond in periodic written or video format.

Your presence and your writing are a cosmic experience for me and many. When can we expect your next book “Wholeness, The Inner Universe and Transcendence”(if I recall correctly). Keep unfolding our cosmic transformation!! A cosmic prophet–no less!

No questions on this my first day as a subscriber. I just want to register my delight and gratitude for this opportunity to go deep with Ilia. I first met you at either CONSPIRE or THE FRANCIS FACTOR and showed those videos to my parish in Pasadena with permission from CAC. I had hoped to schedule a visit from you before I retired as rector of All Saints Church, Pasadena but it couldn’t be accomplished. I continue to guest preach and teach around the country, Canada, and the Caribbean. I’m leading a retreat in October at Holy Cross Monastery in West Park, NY and am using your work on Wholeness and Wholemaking along with Merton’s writings on Oneness. I’m rejoicing that now I have this opportunity to stay current with your thinking and to be a part of this learning community.
    Gratefully,

Here at Living School Symposium and was blown away by first talks yesterday. You had, in the second talk, mentioned “Original Sin” of Adam as providing the need for Atonement for traditional religion. This morning, I came upon an alternative approach to this in Beatrice Bretueau’s “God’s Ectasy”. She views it as a “truly necessary sin of Adam” according to laws of the universe. In order to achieve “Unity in Diversity”, the void first must create finitude and separation. But the universe has a tendency to “clump”. Then there are clumps of clumps and then patterns of clumps. But then relations develop between clumps and there arises mutual reference between clumps, and then eventually unity contains the diversity.

So my question is whether Jesus came to remind us of our unity (“The Christ”) within the diversity? Could this be a better view of the “At One Ment”?

Hi Stephen – Thanks for your note and question. Teilhard did not accept original sin as the sin of an original couple, since this idea belies what we now know from genetics, anthropology and modern biology. However, he also felt that original sin was not needed to provide the reason for Jesus Christ [which is what St. Anselm of Canterbury held] because he viewed the Incarnation in terms of divine love. Thus the entire universe is born out of incarnate love from the “beginning” of the universe. Sin is not the reason for Christ; the reason is the excess love and mercy of God. I would have to review Beatrice’s ideas on unity and diversity but just to clarify – Jesus did not come to remind us of our unity but as the pattern of that unity; that is, he expresses our capacity for cosmotheandric unity. In evolutionary terms, we are unity broken, we are in formation and thus moving towards it.
