Whitehead’s Universe (Group C Launch)

Dr. Andrew M. Davis’s five-week online introduction to Whitehead’s Universe is returning in 2026!

“Process philosophy” is wider than any single thinker, yet Alfred North Whitehead (1861–1947) remains its defining figure for the modern world. His “philosophy of organism” offers a profound vision of reality as dynamic, relational, and always alive with possibility and value. His wife Evelyn once compared his thought to a prism: “It must be seen not from one side alone but from all sides…as one moves around it, the prism is full of changing lights and colors.”

This course invites students, lifelong learners, and the philosophically and theologically curious to explore the many sides, lights, and colors of Whitehead’s universe—ranging from the microscopic to the cosmic, and always in relation to human experience as an expression of the cosmos.

Course Structure & Schedule

The course unfolds over five live Zoom sessions, running on a rolling schedule throughout 2026. Two initial iterations with respective US Pacific and US Eastern groups are now open for registration:

January-February

Group A: Meets Wed, 5:30-7:30 PM, PST (1/14, 1/21, 1/28, 2/4, 2/11).
Group B: Meets Fri, 5:30-7:30 PM, EST (1/16, 1/23, 1/30, 2/6, 2/13).

March-April

Group C: Meets Wed, 5:30-7:30 PM, PST (3/4, 3/11, 3/18, 3/25, 4/1).
Group D: Meets Fri, 5:30-7:30 PM, EST (3/6, 3/13, 3/20, 3/27, 4/3).

Readings & Resources

Primary readings are provided and are drawn from Dr. Davis’s forthcoming book Whitehead’s Universe: A Prismatic Introduction. Supplementary readings are also available for those who wish to dive deeper. Participants are encouraged (but not required) to contribute to weekly forum discussions and a write a short concluding paper.
